2016 Sino-British Dialogue on Health Policy Strengthens Ties

The 2016 Sino-British Dialogue on Health Policy was held on December 5 in Beijing promoting the exchanges between the two countries amid the global health care development.

Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, met with Jeremy Hunt, Britain’s Secretary of State for Health, making a speech at the opening ceremony.

Cui said that the health cooperation between China and Britain is comprehensive, involving various institutions and is of a high calibre.

Cui also expressed both countries are facing health challenges including medical system reforms, an increased aging populations, prevention and control and of chronic diseases, outbreak of epidemics, among other areas.

China is willing to make full use of the existing bilateral cooperative mechanism and platforms and deepen collaboration with Britain regarding health policies, hierarchical medical system and healthy aging.

Both countries are working together to push forward the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, noted Cui.

Hunt also spoke highly of the health cooperation between the two countries, briefing about the health reform policies in Britain, which focus on disease prevention, quality of medical care and innovation.

Hunt encouraged both sides to strengthen ties in fighting against global health threats, including the antibiotic resistance and the aging of the population.

Health representatives from both countries were also present, furthering discussions of the medical system, global health and policy.

Cui also witnessed the signing of research contracts between China’s National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and The London School of Economics and Political Science.
